I am from Seventies orange chairs
And brown carpet.

I am from the cider,
Next to the giant bag of candy,
Sweet and waiting to be devoured
By the costumed me.

I am from synthetic hats and plumes,
Marching on to our victory
And the victory of our team.

I am from cheesecake
And Bing Crosby records
From Marian and Bob.

I am from people I’ve learned to tolerate,
Who I can’t live with
But definitely can’t live without.

I am from John 3:16,
Doing everything in the name of my Lord.
But I also believe, especially in these times,
The elements and Ancients need a little love, too.

I am from Japan, in spirit,
Anime and onigiri,
From the exciting music and addictive dances,
To the superior, if not overly demanding, education system.

On the internet is my pastime,
A place to keep memories and thoughts,
And speak with the friends
I care for the most.

I am from the inner paradox,
That loves social equality and liberal political freedoms,
And simultaneously mourns and celebrates the world.

This is definitely not one of my better poems. It's very forced because it was an English assignment based on the poem of the same title by George Ella Lyon.
